SUMMARY:Mundaneum. Machine to think the world.
DESCRIPTION:Permanent exhibition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover the permanent exhibition on the history of the Mundaneum! \n\n\n\n\nRéserver des billets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPermanent \n\n\n\nExhibition \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1895\, the Mundaneum machine takes off… \n\n\n\nAt the root of this humanist and universalist project is the deep conviction that peace in the world is possible thanks to the classification and sharing of knowledge. Behind these ideas\, which embody an unwavering belief in progress and human knowledge\,are men and women with incredible but often forgotten destinies: Paul Otlet\, recognised as one of the fathers of the internet; Henri La Fontaine\, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize; and Léonie La Fontaine\, a key figure of Belgian feminism. \n\n\n\nA veritable laboratory for thinking about the world\, the Mundaneum has for decades housed and embodied the dreams of visionaries who devoted their entire lives to knowledge\, information and documentation sciences\, right down to inventing a real search engine long before the internet. This innovative project paved the way for many of the technologies that are now part of our everyday lives. \n\n\n\nWhat remains today of this extraordinary adventure? A unique archival heritage\, strong universal values and a utopian vision of the world that is still relevant and questions all of us as citizens. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis new permanent exhibition invites you to understand this formidable machine for thinking about the world\, which offers timeless insight into our social issues. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSo take a journey through time to better understand the world of tomorrow.

SUMMARY:Shades of Black – Anarchist Histories and Ideas
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscover Shades of Black\, the Mundaneum exhibition on the history and ideas of anarchism: archives\, posters\, social struggles\, and reflections on autonomy\, equality\, and living together. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRéserver des billets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExposition \n\n\n\ntemporaire \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince its emergence in the 19th century\, anarchism has inspired both fascination and misunderstanding. Often associated with violence or chaos\, its history and the ideas it promotes are\, however\, far richer and more nuanced than they are commonly perceived to be. \n\n\n\nWith Shades of Black\, the Mundaneum invites visitors to move beyond these clichés and discover the ideas\, struggles and utopian visions carried by anarchist women and men. Far from simply rejecting the state\, authority in all its forms\, or capitalism\, they also imagined new ways of living together based on autonomy\, equality\, solidarity\, free education and collective organisation. \n\n\n\nThe anarchist movement took many different forms and found expression within working-class\, intellectual and artistic circles alike. Whether individualist\, syndicalist or communist\, anarchists often stood at the forefront of social debates surrounding women’s emancipation\, contraception\, criticism of capitalism\, ecology\, vegetarianism\, free education and freedom of thought. \n\n\n\nIn a world marked by inequality\, ecological crises\, wars and growing distrust in institutions\, these ideas are enjoying a resurgence. They challenge us to rethink power\, freedom and collective life within contemporary society. Today\, the ways of life and forms of social organisation advocated by anarchists continue to inspire numerous initiatives and struggles. \n\n\n\nConceived as an immersive journey into anarchist cultures\, the exhibition brings together militant posters\, photographs\, newspapers\, archives\, pamphlets\, punk records and slogans. Through a deliberately vibrant and abundant scenography — featuring graffiti-covered walls\, striking imagery and objects of protest — Shades of Black – Anarchist Histories and Ideas presents anarchism as a living\, embodied movement that remains constantly in motion. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMundaneum \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAn exhibition by the Mundaneum and the Institut d’histoire ouvrière\, économique et sociale (IHOES)\, in collaboration with the Centre d’histoire et de sociologie des gauches (CHSG) at ULB.
