This collection contains newspapers and periodicals from around the world, the oldest of which date back to the late 17th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Newspaper Museum (INM) was founded in 1907. Its aim was to collect all Belgian newspapers and periodicals, as well as examples of all the periodicals published in the world, preferably: “the first and last edition in order to capture the initial profession of faith and the last cry of those who are swept away by the whirlwind of ideas.” It also has a library dedicated to the press, and from 1911, a museum exhibiting examples from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of creating a museum dedicated to the press was already being discussed within the Belgian Periodical Press Union. Otlet finally brought the idea to fruition when he was appointed vice-president in 1906. He made the International Newspaper Museum a satellite institution of the IIB, and enlisted the help of the Newspaper Collectors Club to support the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The INM collection, which already contained 40,000 titles in 1911, has been added to over the years. It contains newspapers and periodicals from around the world, the oldest of which date back to the late 17th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
