Our opening hours
#Fakeimages, an exhibition created by Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen, encourages deconstructing these false representations and learning how to react to fake news and hate speech.
Every day, a multitude of messages and images reach us through various channels such as social media, television, and the press. Fake news, misleading images, and propaganda messages pollute our information flow, often innocently, but sometimes with more insidious intentions. What are the mechanisms that facilitate the transmission of these messages, and why are we so susceptible to receiving them?
These stereotypical images, conspiracy theories, and fake news are sometimes used against specific communities. During the Second World War, anti-Semitic propaganda led to an unprecedented genocide, that of the Jewish people. Based on the collection of anti-Semitic images by Arthur Langerman, a Belgian Holocaust survivor, this exhibition aims to connect the past and the present. Its objective is to decode and explain the mechanisms of propaganda and false images, encouraging visitors to question the stereotypes still present today.
#Fakeimages, an exhibition created by Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen, encourages deconstructing these false representations and learning how to react to fake news and hate speech. Engaged for several years in raising awareness among young people about conspiracy theories, fake news, and source verification, the Mundaneum continues the work of its founders Paul Otlet, Henri La Fontaine, and Léonie La Fontaine, to document the world and share knowledge for the purpose of universal understanding. As a true laboratory of peace through knowledge, the Mundaneum’s hosting of this exhibition is therefore in line with its history and the perpetuation of its universal, pacifist, and humanist values.
