An educational visit to the Mundaneum
From kindergarten to secondary school, the discovery of the Mundaneum, both its history and the themes addressed in its temporary exhibitions, as well as the architecture of the premises, offers your students an original, surprising and knowledge-rich experience.
Our interactive visits are adapted to the age of the children. Do not hesitate to contact our educational team. We are here to listen to you and co-create a visit and animation project that meets your needs and expectations.
Primary schools
The aim of our visit formulas is to make your students actors in their discoveries through tools that stimulate their desire to learn. We offer:
- The animated visit of our permanent exhibition. This visit to the permanent exhibition presents the Mundaneum projects carried out in the 19th century, which still resonate with current practises in communication, information sciences, and library classification.
- The “Giant Goose Game” animation. In this version of the goose game, your students, in small groups, go on a hunt for riddles in our exhibitions, collections, and around the architecture of the building. For each successful mission, a Mundaneum archive is saved!
- The visit-workshop “Give peace a chance?” Following the animated visit to the exhibition dedicated to the history of the Mundaneum, your students participate in a creative workshop “Give peace a chance?” to discover some beautiful posters, their slogans, and symbols for peace before creating their postcard with a message of peace. A nice souvenir to take home.
Also discover our combined visit-workshop formulas offered in connection with our temporary exhibitions. After your visit, participate with your class in a complementary workshop, led by the Mundaneum or one of its partners.
Secondary schools
Our guide animators accompany you in the active discovery of our exhibitions.
- The active visit of our exhibitions (1h30). Beyond the guided tour, the active visit opens up dialogue, stimulates debate, and awakens critical thinking.
- The workshop visit (1h30). Following the active visit of the permanent exhibition (45 min), choose between 3 workshops to discover a part of our collections (45 min).
Each theme has its own drawer
No less than 35,000 posters are classified in themed drawers: advertising, health, tourism, folklore, politics, war, pacifism, feminism, anarchism… Participate in a DIY workshop: visual analysis and argumentation on the choices made for classification.
Give peace a chance?
Through the analysis of archival documents, students discover the different pacifist movements and the evolution of major international associations, from the League of Nations to UNESCO and the UN.
Who is she?
Do you know Léonie La Fontaine, Marie Popelin, or Émilie Claes? Through the game “Who is she”, the workshop highlights some Belgian women from the 19th and 20th centuries and addresses the history of women’s emancipation through key dates.
Also discover our combined formulas offered in connection with our temporary exhibitions. After your visit, participate with your class in a complementary workshop, led by the Mundaneum or one of its partners.
Extracurricular
On Wednesday afternoons or during school holidays, the Mundaneum welcomes extracurricular groups (homework clubs, youth centres, visits as part of a training programme…).
Contact our team to let us know your preferences: exhibition visits, educational activities or creative workshops (origami, bookbinding…). We adapt to provide you with a half-day of discoveries closely related to the themes of your activities.
